Book: The Magician's Nephew

By C S Lewis

"You are about to enter one of the most wonderful places in all of literature: C.S. Lewis' land of Narnia. This is the book that C.S. Lewis intended to be the first in his landmark series, The Chronicles of Narnia. Here we are introduced to Polly and Digory, who are tricked by Digory's uncle Andrew into becoming part of an experiment that transports them into the adventure of a lifetime. After being hurled into the Wood Between the Worlds, the children encounter the evil queen Jadis, who accidently accompanies the children back to England and wrecks havoc on the streets of London. When Polly and Digory finally take the queen away from London, they find themselves lost in a place that will soon be known as Narnia. In this unforgettable story, C.S. Lewis shows us how the adventure began -- the glorious birth of the land of Narnia at the hand of its mysterious King."

A wonderful story; a must read for anyone who loves a story filled with magic and mystery!

I enjoyed the Narnia books - I didn't realize there was a "pre-quel" I gotta read this!

I'm not surprised you like these books, and hope you get to read this one and enjoy it. :)

As for knowing about this book... I didn't know about it either. Not until it was pointed out to me when I got "The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe" on audio CD this past Christmas. Thing is, even though it's officially the first book, I think it was the last one to be published (if I'm not mistaken).

Movie-watcher me has been seeing the Narnia movies as they come out. Wonder if they will go back and make a movie out of this almost "lost" book, too? :)

If I were a book reader, I'd probably enjoy this book. I love the movies. :)

I'm a big Narnia fan and yet I didn't know about this book. Will have to get it! Thanks for the review.

I don't know, maybe. They haven't been doing the movies in order anyway... They've done 2, 4 and 5 as movies. If they'd done 3 then I'd think they were doing them in publication order, but apparently 3 didn't deserve to make it on screen. *Shrugs*

Yes, I'm sure you would, and glad you enjoy the movies. :)

Deanna & Jeannie:
You're welcome, and... Don't feel bad, a lot of people don't know about this book.

When "The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe" came out, I so enjoyed the movie that I wanted to read the entire series. Fortunately, our library had a copy where they were all together in one book. I enjoyed all of them. Considering that they have not made movies of all of the books, I'm doubtful that they would go back and make a movie of "The Magician's Nephew".

That was lucky for you. I know it's available as a set. I only have these first two so far though. Well, I do "sort of" own print copies (which I gave to Kelly) of all 7 books, but in audio I only have the first two. I obviously plan on getting the rest though (and I've read them all in the past... Years ago).

You're probably right... It's doubtful they'll go back and make movies for the missing books. It's not beyond the realm of possibility though. I mean, The Hobbit is before LOTR, and yet they did LOTR already, but are only now working on The Hobbit movie. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Personally, if I was going to do one movie, I'd want to do the lot, but that's just me, I guess.
