#Hastings #Bonfire Celebrations 2017 - Part 1

On October 14th 2017, Kelly attended the Hastings Bonfire celebrations, which were held not too far from us. There are similar events every year, either to acknowledge the anniversary of the Battle of Hastings in 1066, to remember the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, or both. This year it seemed to be both at once.

I would have gone with him, but since it was a bit far for me to walk, and they were closing some of the roads for the evening, I was reluctant. Then there was Lilie to consider. She doesn't seem to mind crowds and noise - to her it's just extra people to make friends with - and fireworks don't seem to bother her. But there is something that does: Drums. Lilie totally freaks when she hears drums, especially if she's close to them, and a lot of the parades seem to involve drums. When it's parades passing past our place, so we can watch from the windows or I can stand back with her, she's not too bad, but we weren't sure of the layout of the area enough to know where I could have a seat and still be in a good place for Lilie, and the closed roads would cause a problem if it got too much for her and we had to leave. So Lilie and I stayed home, and Kelly videoed most of the main event for me. Considering I had to use headphones while watching the videos or Lilie freaked out, I'm glad we did decide to do things the way we did.

Anyhow, since Kelly took the time to do the videos, I thought I'd share them with you.

First though, here are a couple of photos. The first shows the bonfire before it was lit, and the second shows the band you'll hear a lot of during the videos (AKA the reason we ended up glad we didn't take Lilie to the event).

Now on to the videos!

He did them as several short videos, rather than one long one, so there are several of them. Enjoy!

I don't want to make this post too long, so I've split it in to two. Come back tomorrow for the other half of the videos.

Lizzie is out of here at the first thunder. On July 4, we don't even see her once the fireworks start!

That bonfire pile looks enormous. And it looks like a wonderful celebration/festival. Very cool.

Lilie is the first dog I've ever had who seems to actually like fireworks, and I've never had a cat who did. Kero didn't mind them too much at first, but a certain incident when he was a little over a year old scared him so much he'd tremble just at the word "firework" after that. Like I said though, Lilie actually seems to like them. Drums, on the other hand, are another matter entirely. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the post. Hope you enjoy part 2 as much.

Lilie would have hated all the drums--LOL! But it looks like quite a celebratory parade with so many different costumes. People were having a fun time. But you way of doing this worked out perfect for Lilie. What we do for our pets, eh? :) :)

Indeed! I even listened to the video clips on headphones so the drums didn't bother her. ;)

That was quite a stack of wood for that bonfire!

And lots of drums too...
