The flat

OK, so we went and picked up the keys to look at the place. When we picked up the keys they told us not to just accept it because we want out of here, but to only accept it if we're 100% certain we want it. After all, with how high our points are it shouldn't be long before another property opens up now that we've started getting offers. So, with this in mind, we took the keys and went to take a look at the place.

The place is a bit bigger than where we are now (though not by much). The front room and bigger bedroom are about the size we have now, but the kitchen and spare room are a bit bigger. Also, the kitchen is actually a seporate room rather than the little bit of space off the front room that we have in this place. The bathroom and toilet are actually seporate, which we also think is a good thing, and made even better by the fact there's a bath (something I've been hoping to find in our new home). The only thing the inside needs is a bit of a touch-up with paint (and some carpets, but all council/housing association properties need that when you move in to them over here, because they always take up the carpets from the previous tenants for some reason). Otherwise it's perfect. Exactly what we want from the flat itself.

As for the garden...

The front garden is shared with the people who live above us. But, the back garden is a private, fenced off area with a small patio area and a tidy sized lawn. There's even a couple of sheds out there. The garden needs a bit of a tidy up (flower beds need weeding, lawn needs cutting, etc) and some of the fencing has gaps we'd need to fill to make sure Kero didn't slip out (in some places the fence is literally a bit of wire conecting the posts) but otherwise the garden was better than we could have hoped. It's more than big enough for us and a little dog like Kero.

As for the area itself...

The place is only a few minutes walk from the main bus stop in the town, so an easy walk in to town (even for someone like me who doesn't do much walking). But, where the actual place is we're a little way off the roads. It's nice and quiet (we actually stood out in the garden for a while just listening to the birds) and the neighbour above us certainly seems to have more respect for peoples' ear drums (not to mention better taste in music) because we had to be very quiet to hear their music, and it was actual music with singing not just "boom, boom, etc." The garden backs on to a large field, and the place is literally right beside a nice little riverside walk. So, with the trees near the riverside walk on one side, the field on the other, and the flat on the other, the only place anyone could be to make Kero bark when he's outside is in the garden next door or in the flat above, and since they'd have to live with it I don't expect those people would intensionally set him off. Also, there are both a post office and a small grocery store just down the road, so if we just needed some bread or milk or something we could go out, grab it and be home within five minutes (OK, maybe a bit more with getting served and such, but you get the idea) and the same would go for if we wanted to get something posted.

I think I've told you everything. The only thing I haven't told you is whether or not we're taking it, though you might have figured it out by now. Yes, we're taking it.

We would have kinda liked a bungalow or house, but we know there's no chance of a bungalow being offered to us, and very little chance of a house, so we decided that we don't want to pass up a place as perfect as this just on the off chance they "might" offer us a house. So, we agreed to take it. I mean, it's exactly what we wanted, and in a perfect location (far enough away from the main road to be quiet and safe for the cats, but close enough to make getting to things easy).

We have the keys, and are starting to move stuff in and get the painting done tomorrow. Not sure exactly what day we're moving in (depends when we can arrange a mover) but it will be some time in the next week or so. Hoping to be all moved in by the 9th at the latest, because Mam and Dad are going away on the 10th, and they're moving the bulk of the stuff in their cars (the bags, boxes, and other stuff small enough not to need a truck for).

At some point during this we'll probably be without internet access and a phone line for a bit. No idea if it'll be a couple of hours or a couple of days (depends how easily the company can sort it) and after the weekend I don't know how much I'll be able to get on line even if the sorting of the phone and internet goes smoothly. But, I'm sure everyone understands that.

Don't have time to check blogs tonight, got to get some packing done.

Thanks all :)

Like LadyStyx said, that's 'cause you're such a sweetheart and always willing to lend a hand when you can. :)

Yeah, I know you'll want pictures. Not sure how long it'll take to get them though, 'cause where we need to sort carpets we're going to just have stuff everywhere for a couple of weeks, and I don't really want to do pics when it's in that state. Promise to get someone to take some pics for me when things are a bit more organised though. Although, I will see about getting a pic or two of the garden as soon as someone has a free moment. Not much needs to be sorted out there, so it'll be easy to move about and get photos. LOL!

I'm so happy you have a new place! I just got new neighbors, and they are already bothering me, with their loud music all day and half the night. Plus they're doing laundry late at night and I can hear the washing machine from my apt. Next apartment, I'm living on the top floor, no more having anyone above me!

Yeah, that's what I have all the time in this place, but I spent most of the weekend at the new place and the neighbours were MUCH quieter. Plus, I've had more manners and politeness from the neighbours near the new place so far than I've had from all the neighbours in the 2 & 1/2 years I've lived in this place. So, off to a good start there :)
