Taunted by squirrels
There's always evidence that squirrels are nearby. And the trees at Gelli Aer seemed to be full of squirrels. However, it appears they're taking a leaf out of the books of those ones near Iggy, because - despite the fact that several of them were quite close at times - taking photos of them proved to be extremely difficult.
At one point there was a squirrel on a branch only a foot or two above my head. But it kept itself among the leaves so that even the best of nature photographers would have had trouble getting a shot. Then, before we even had the camera aimed at it to try, it disappeared around the other side of the tree.
There were also squirrels who sat in the middle of the trail, just watching us - sometimes holding something edible - but staying just out of the camera's range. They'd let us start to creep closer. Then... Poof! No squirrel!
Then there were those that were running up and down trees, jumping from branch to branch, etc.
We ended up convinced that the nuts they had were actually little squirrel walkie talkies, and that they had some sort of plan formulated to taunt us humans. A plan involving keeping moving, staying beyond the camera's range, and partly hiding onself behind leaves and/or branches of trees.
We'd almost given up hope of getting a photo of a squirrel. But, finally...
Enjoy whatever's left of your day! :)
