Stupid instructions/warnings (AE&D)

I'm sure you've all seen the e-mail with the stupid warnings and instructions in it. You've got to have seen it at least once. I get a copy in my inbox at least once every few months. You know the one, right? The one with things like:

"On a packet of nuts:
Instructions: Open packet. Eat nuts.
Caution: May contain traces of nuts."

"On a box of Christmas lights:
For indoor or outside use only."

"On the bottom of a yoghurt pot:
Do not turn this way up."

And so on!

Well, I recently discovered a new warning to add to this e-mail... Kelly and I found it among the instructions for a laptop... It said:

Do not place fingers in front of screen while closing, as trapping fingers may hurt."

I have to ask...

How many complaints about this have been sent in to make them feel it's necessary to warn you of this?

LOL (companies need to cover all the bases for fear of being sued from people doing very stupid things)

There is a street sign at the end of my street that always irritates me. It reads, "Littering on public property and private property is illegal"

What's left after you exclude public and private property?

Furthermore, it should be Public property OR Private property not AND (unless they are strictly worried about people dropping litter on the property lines between public and private lots?)

*Goes and puts a plastic bag on his head*

I always say, "If you are so stupid to you need this sort of written directions, you probably can't read, so what's the point?"

True. But it's still stupid that they need to do so.

That is a daft sign.

And, I agree. Surely people can figure most of this stuff out for themselves.

Kinda like the "Do Not Dump Here" sign I see all the time. Does that mean it is ok to dump everywhere else?

How about the products that come in a plastic bag and they have the warning on them not to put the bag over your head because it can cause suffocation? Who would be stupid enough to do that?

Tori_z said...

Sounds that way.

Yeah, quite.

*chuckle* The worst part is, those warnings wouldn't be there if OTHER FOLKS didn't feel it was necessary to HAVE the warnings there. and oftentimes lately, those warnings come about via lawsuites because stupid people have done stupid things that would have been obvious to anybody with common sense. (IE: the "contents may be hot" warning on the side of the McDonald's coffee cup now, because the woman burnt herself then sued McD's because she got burnt on their coffee...... Well, gee..... REALLY?!?!?!)

Thanks for the morning chuckle. Hope you've had a FANTASTIC weekend, Tori. And I hope the coming week is fabulous as well.

If you're stupid enough to try to close your fingers in the laptop, you shouldn't be using one.

Yeah, I figured that was the issue... If I took companies to court every time I did something stupid though I'd be stuck in court all the time. LOL! Some people are stupid. I mean, of course the coffee will be hot, duh! Of course shutting your fingers in something will hurt. Duh! And, of course peanuts contain nuts... They are nuts! *Shaking head at the stupidity of human beings*

I agree! I've done some stupid things in my time. But even a four year old could tell you that shutting your fingers in something will hurt. So, if you can't figure it out then the best thing for you is a padded room where there's nothing you can hurt yourself on.
