"Seven noble families fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros. Political and sexual intrigue abound. The primary families are the Stark, Lannister, and Baratheon families. Robert Baratheon, King of Westeros, asks his old friend Eddard Stark to serve as his chief advisor. Eddard, suspecting that his predecessor had been murdered, accepts so that he can investigate further. The Queen's family, the Lannisters, may be hatching a plot to take control. Across the sea, the last surviving members of the previously deposed ruling family, the Targaryens, are also plotting a return to power. The conflict between these families and others, including the Greyjoys, the Tullys, the Arryns, and the Tyrells, leads to war. Meanwhile, in the north, an ancient evil awakens. Amidst war and the political confusion, a brotherhood of misfits, The Night's Watch, is all that stands between the realms of men and the horrors beyond."

Many of you - especially those of you who read Dorkys' blog, since she posted about it just a couple of days ago - will have heard of this one, I'm sure. Well, I wasn't going to watch it, but I did end up watching it, and... All I can say is, "Yes, it is as good as it sounds; not one to watch when the kids or grandkids are about though!"

June 2011 lunar eclipse
"A total lunar eclipse will take place on June 15, 2011. It is the first of two total lunar eclipses in 2011, the second occurring on December 10.
It is a relatively rare central eclipse where the moon passes in front of the center of the Earth's shadow. The last lunar eclipse closer to the center of the earth's shadow was on July 16, 2000. The next central total lunar eclipse will be on July 27, 2018."
Click here to read the rest of the article.
So, tonight we have a full moon, and a lunar eclipse; I bet there will be plenty of people out watching the skies tonight! :)

Weight loss - 13/6/11
I lost another 3 and a half pounds (3lbs 8oz) this week.
That makes a total of 1 stone, 5 and a half pounds (19lbs 8oz) that I've lost.
Still got a lot to lose to get to a decent weight. But I'm getting there!

A gate, a snack, and more (FD)
Some time in the next couple of days I will be posting some photos from a recent walk that Iggy very kindly sorted for me (thank you Iggy). In the meantime...
Alan from upstairs painted the front gate during some of the dry weather we had in the past couple of weeks, and I thought I'd post a photo for you...

Call me strange if you like, but I happen to think it's a nice gate, and I bet it looks even better now that it's had a fresh coat of paint.
***
Thought you all might like a new Kero photo...

I'd have grabbed more, but he lost interest and turned away after the first photo...

***
As a vegetarian I'm always looking for different ways to combine my fruits and veggies. It's amazing how much different a meal tastes just from changing one ingredient. Well, my main issue is healthy snacks; I mean, who wants just a plain piece of fruit all the time? So, I decided to try another of the snacks I'd read about when looking for different ideas for fruit and veggie snacks. And this is it:

Half an apple, spread with peanut butter, with raisins arranged in the shape of a face.
Iggy pointed out that it kind of looks like a jack-o-lantern, which makes me think it would be a great snack for any Autumn celebrations (such as Samhain).
Ah, who am I kidding? It's a great snack for any time!
***
We had a thunderstorm Friday evening. Nothing impressive; it was over pretty quickly. Since then it's been alternating between being sunny and rainy.
***
*Hugs and positive thoughts to all in need of them*

Movie: The Pacifier
"The film is the story of an undercover agent who, after failing to protect an important government scientist, learns the man's family is in danger. In an effort to redeem himself, he agrees to take care of the man's children only to discover that child care is his toughest mission yet."
(Above taken from here).
I've seen this movie several times; and was sure I had reviewed it before; but I couldn't find any sign of a review for it in my old posts (unless I missed it somehow), so I'm reviewing it now. Anyway, I think it's an absolutely fantastic movie!

A scarf and a plane
Last Saturday, I finished knitting the scarf for Louise...
...I'm told she loves it! :)
And, on Sunday, I made this little knitted plane...
Complete with a little propeller on the front of it...
...I made it for Michael. It's his first birthday on July 20th, so I wanted to make him something. I figured a plane would be easy enough to make up a pattern for, and a good option for a little boy who hasn't yet developed any real preferences for spacific types of things. Anyway, I made it now so I have plenty of time to get it to Elizabeth for him before his birthday next month.
If you're wondering, no; the propeller doesn't move... I figured firmly sewing it on was a better option for an infant. I stitched every piece as firmly as I could, going over each piece again and again to make it as secure as possible. I figured that was the best option, since it was for such a young child, and I know how children like playing rough with things sometimes.
Anyway...
I've finished both of Emma's blankets for her dolls too, but I haven't had a chance to get photos on here for them. They're only small-ish, pretty simple blankets, so it didn't take me long to do them; I knitted both of them in this past week (I finished the second one last night). There's a photo of each of them on my camera, so I'll share it some time soon. I had a photo taken of each of them because they're slightly different. They're to be for her dolls' prams at two different houses, but I still figured they should be slightly different.
I have made a start on the next project, and I have plans to make several other items, but I'll tell you more about all the other projects another time.

Pronouncing Pagan holidays
These are the most common pronounciations for the Pagan holidays; though pronounciations can vary between people and areas, so they aren't exactly set in stone. They're a rough idea for those who are curious about how to pronounce them though.

Ostara: pronounced "O-stahr-uh" or "Ohs-truh" or "Est-truh"

Altar tile
I discovered - while looking for my pentagram pendant - that I had one other item; an altar tile made for me by my uncle Philip (I think he made it when I was about 17, but I could be wrong). So, I had Kelly help me get photos of it. Now, I know people are going to be curious about the symbols on it, so I had Kelly try and identify them for me so that I could provide them with the photos. So...
Here is the top of it:

The symbols on the top are as follows:
The pentagram that's up the right way (with the point of the star facing upwards) is just a normal pentagram.
The one that looks sort of like an inverted (upside down) pentagram is the symbol for magic.
The symbol that looks like a triangle (the one with the point up the right way) is the fire symbol.
The inverted (upside down) triangle is the water symbol .
The symbol that looks like 2 quarter moons back to back is a version of the triple goddess symbol (it is also - in fact, more commonly - done with a circle in between the quarter moons), which is also just used as a "female" symbol to represent the femaneine in rituals and such.
The symbol that looks like a circle with horns is the horned god symbol, which is also just used as a "male" symbol to represent the mascaleine in rituals and such.
The other symbols we aren't sure about, but I "think" they might be the air and earth symbols. I could be wrong, but since they are the other common symbols missing, there's a strong possibility that this is the case.
And here is the bottom of it:
The symbols on the back/bottom are the following runes:
The first rune - the one that looks like an R - translates as rad.
The second rune - the one that looks like an F with the bits that stick out slanted - translates as asa.
The third rune- the one that looks like a U - We couldn't find a translation for.
The fourth rune - the one that looks like a M - translates as eh.
The fifth rune - the one that looks like a cross between an X and a T - translates as nyd.

Movie: Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic
"As Rincewind involuntarily becomes a guide to the naive tourist Twoflower, they find themselves forced to flee the city of Ankh-Morpork to escape a terrible fire, and begin on a journey across the Disc. Unknown to them, their journey & fate is being decided by the Gods playing a board game the whole time."
(Above taken from this page).
They did change parts of this from the book, but - unusually for books made in to movies these days - they kept most of it accurate. Anyway, I thought it was a really good movie, and that they did a pretty good job of turning the book in to a movie. Mind you, Terry Pratchett - author of the book - was very closely involved in the work, so that is perhaps why. And how do I know he was closely involved? Well, he was so closely involved that he actually has a small role in the movie. I'm rambling a bit here though, so I'll get to the point... It's a really good movie, and I think you should try to get to watch it. Especially if you're a fan of movies containing magic, fantasy, and impossible things that could never really happen in a million years happening.

Happy birthday Jen/Mom
It's my Mother-In-Law, Jenifer's birthday today, so I wanted to post a short message for her. I'm not sure if she'll read this or not, but I figured I would post it anyway. So... Happy birthday Jen/Mom (I call her both and wasn't sure which to use for this post, hence using both... LOL!) Hope you're having a great birthday!
Plans for how to celebrate Pagan holidays (FD)
For those interested, this is how we plan to be celebrating each of the Pagan holidays. Each person - or, if you happen to be in one, group/coven - celebrates differently, so don't be surprised if these differ from the rough plans of some people.
Imbolc (February 2nd): An appropriate activity, an appropriate ritual, and an appropriate feast/meal. For example: a walk to search for signs of Spring, a ritual intended to be done at that time of year, and a meal of foods that are associated with Imbolc.
Ostara/Spring Equinox (March 21st): An appropriate activity, an appropriate ritual, an appropriate feast/meal, and exchanging of Ostara treats. For example: egg dying, an Ostara ritual, a meal of Spring foods, and exchanging of a gift basket filled with chocolate eggs.
Beltane (May 1st): An appropriate activity, an appropriate ritual, and an appropriate feast/meal. For example: a nature walk, a Beltane ritual, and a feast of foods associated with summer.
Litha/Summer Solstice (June 21st): An appropriate activity, an appropriate ritual, and an appropriate feast/meal. For example: berry picking, a Summer Solstice ritual, and a meal of foods associated with Summer.
Lughnasadh/Lammas (August 1st): An appropriate activity, an appropriate ritual, and an appropriate feast/meal. For example: a picnic out in nature, and a Lughnasadh ritual.
Mabon/Autumn Equinox (September 22nd): An appropriate activity, an appropriate ritual, and an appropriate feast/meal. For example: a nature walk, a Mabon ritual, and a feast of Autumn foods.
Samhain/Halloween (October 31st): An appropriate activity, an appropriate ritual, and an appropriate feast/meal. For example: pumpkin carving, providing treats for Trick-Or-Treaters, a Samhain ritual, and a feast of Samhain goodies (such as pumpkin pie).
Yule/Winter Solstice (December 21st): Appropriate activities, rituals, feasts/meals, and gift giving, all spread over the days from the 21st to the 26th of December.
The examples given in this post may not be the exact things we do, but are to give you an idea of what I mean when I say, "an appropriate activity," etc. I will give more information on our exact planned activities and such closer to each holiday.

Furkid thoughts: of walkies and such
Hi humans, it's Kero here.
Well, Mami and I got to enjoy some really nice walkies, but guess what? Now that rain stuff is back! I was enjoying walkies in the sunshine too! OK, so some days it was a bit hotter than I like, but Mami put that "fan" thing on and laying in front of that soon cooled me down. Besides, it was worth it to get three walkies a day!
Having all those walkies means I've seen a lot of my doggy friends lately. Like Molly the Sheltie, and her little brother, Laddie, as well as Cara the Labrador x Spaniel, and Bella the Chihuahua, and those two King Charles Spaniels staying with her, remember? Jody and Jade. Not to mention a few local dogs I don't know that well. And then, Mamgu dropped Willow off with us for a while on Friday morning, and we looked after her while Mamgu did those "errand" things humans seem to need to do a lot.
So, I've had a busy time lately. Looks like a quiet day today though, since it's raining! Anyway, I just thought you would like a post from me. Will post again soon.
Oh yeah... If you're wondering... Gwydion is fine. All he's been doing is eating, sleeping, having cuddle time, and throwing his bowl about though, so he doesn't really have anything to post about, hence him not coming and posting for himself.
Licks and sniffs,
Kero

Space Buddies
"One Small Step For Dog. One Giant Leap For Dogkind."
"The Buddies sneak aboard the experimental space shuttle Vision 1. The Buddies take a close look around until they are sealed into the shuttle, which is controlled remotely by Astro at mission control for its first flight."

The movie was cute and sweet, and I'd watch it again!

Happy birthday Grandma
It's my Grandma's birthday today, so... Happy birthday, Grandma!
Shoes and books
***
I was going to get some books and audiobooks from that site with books on it for people with "print disabilities", but now I wont be. Why? Well, the thing is... I can get past the $25 registration fee. I can also get past the $50 anual fee - they've got to get money from somewhere, after all - but I have a bit of an issue with the other registration term. I don't see why I should have to provide proof of my disability just to be allowed to join. All other places (like the R.N.I.B., for example) accept that you need thee items, and they don't charge you to register (you just pay for what you buy), so why should this site need proof of my disability? If it was a case of, "proove it, and you get a discount," or "proove it, and your registration is free," or something like that, fine. But they want that amount of money (regardless of whether I have any books from them or not) and the proof... Why? If it was a last resort I might consider it (reluctantly), but since the main books I wanted are available for reasonable prices - and, in some cases even for free - elsewhere, why should I hand over a copy of my BD8 (the document that prooves I'm blind; I think that's the correct name for the document, anyway) just to get a couple of books? Don't get me wrong, there are books on there I'd love to get my hands on; I just don't see why I should have to hand over proof of my disability to be able to get them. The very fact I'm looking on there - and was willing to pay the registration fee and anual fee - should be enough proof for them that I can't just go to any old book shop/website, shouldn't it? Well, I think so, anyway!
Speaking of books though, I found a couple of Pagan books in braille on the R.N.I.B.'s website. That really surprised me, actually. They don't have many, but they have more than I expected; I expected my search to return no results!

2000 posts and a pendant
You may remember me saying a few times that I had about 2000 posts on my blog?
Well, after I said that I started keeping track - by getting my dashboard to only show "published" posts - and, guess what? This is post 2000 to be published. Of course, I also have several posts scheduled to go up in the next couple of months, but this is post 2000 to be published, and the others don't count until they get published.
So, for my 2000th post, I thought I would share a couple of photos of my pentagram pendant.

That's my hand holding it in the last photo. No, the pendant isn't huge or anything like that, I just have quite small hands. The pendant is only about the size of a 10p piece (about the size of a quarter, for the benifit of those not in the UK, and therefore probably not familiar with the size of our 10p pieces).
This is the same pendant I brought myself when I was 16 years old. The cord it's on has been replaced a few times (and, by the look of it, will soon be needing to be replaced again) but the pentagram is the original pewter one I brought when I was 16.
I didn't wear it for a while - during the time I've been struggling with things - but it's now back around my neck where it belongs. Although I do tuck it inside my top when I go out; just because it's easier. The thing is that, although people seem to be allowed to wear crosses proudly - in most places anyway - wearing a pentagram is frowned upon as a general rule, so tucking it inside my clothing allows me to keep it on while still avoiding confrontation with anyone who may not be as willing to accept my beliefs as my online friends are. It's a shame it feels like doing so is necessary, but that's the way it is; maybe one day things will change?
Weight loss info
I lost three quarters of a pound (12oz) this week.
Not a huge, really impressive loss, but it's a loss, so I'm fine with that.
Every little helps, right? :)
